FOR KIDS 15 AND YOUNGER - THE SECURITY SYSTEM Now that my “house” is built, I am going to protect it with a security system.
The most important part of my “house” is the foundation (Jesus), but the other parts are also very important. To protect my “house” from doubt, fear, poverty, disease or other evils, (including Liberals), I need a security system - God’s covenant.
God’s New Covenant guarantees our salvation, IF we believe in Him, and do His will, namely, love Him and our neighbors as ourselves.
Covenant: (Webster) A formal, solemn and binding agreement.
A contract is easily broken; but a covenant is binding, usually till death. Marriage (God-ordained marriage only, between a man and a woman) is a covenant - “Till death do us part”.
God has made several covenants; His covenants are everlasting. They can be broken by men, and often have. But God will never break His part of the Covenant. Unlike us, He cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
He made a Covenant with Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you for perpetual generations (that includes us): I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.” Genesis 9:12-14.
In Bible times, when you cut a covenant with someone, you’d bring an animal, usually a ram or a goat, and kill it by cutting it in two (Yuk!). Next, you would face your covenant partner and walk towards each other between the two pieces of the animal, passing each other in the center.
What all this means is that both parties are obliged to protect and provide for each other. Whatever belongs to one belongs to the other. Of course the one who benefits most is the lesser or poorer partner. In God’s covenant we are the lesser partner.
There are two blood covenants God has made that I believe are the most important. The first is the covenant He made with Abraham involving animals; the second is the New Covenant, involving Jesus.
The Abrahamic Covenant: God promised Abraham, when he was 75, that he would have a child, and that he would be the father of many nations. (Abraham didn’t have Isaac until he was 100, and his wife was 95)! Abraham asked God how he could believe the promise, so God made a blood covenant. But it wasn’t between God and Abraham (God put Abraham to sleep, because, being human, Abraham could fail); The covenant was between the Father and Jesus. God promised Abraham a son, and also promised a land (Israel) for his descendants, from whom the Messiah would be born. God gave the land to Abraham and his offspring forever! (The Palestinians, despite what everyone says, have no right to any part of the land!). You can read the entire amazing account in the 15th chapter of Genesis.
The New Covenant: In the Old Testament, God set up the system of blood sacrifice, wherein the blood of animals was offered up by the High Priest for the sins of the people. This had to be done every year, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins [permanently]”. (Heb 10:4)
Man simply could not live up to the Law. So God did it for us! Jesus fulfilled the demand of the Law completely, perfectly, by His death on the Cross. Jesus and His Father made a blood covenant for us. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished”, the Old Testament Law was satisfied, evidenced, in part, by the tearing of the 20-foot high veil in the temple from top to bottom, opening the Holy of Holies. It had meant death to enter there before.
By Jesus’ death our sins have been forgiven, for all time! “..this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of the God.” (Heb 10:12)
Because of Jesus’ blood covenant, I can be with the richest, most powerful, friendliest, most loving, funnest Person in the Universe, forever! Why? Because I made a choice to believe Him. WOB D WOD (What One believes, Determines, What One Does [or, what happens to one for eternity]).
