A LETTER TO BILL O'REILLY Last week Bill O’Reilly, whose TV program attracts more viewers than the next three largest cable networks combined (see him on the O’Reilly Factor, Fox News Channel, 7:00 PM M-F), compared the treatment of Barack H. Obama by Americans on the Right, with the treatment of George W. Bush by people on the Left. He appeared to think that the two men receive(ed) equivalent treatment. In my opinion, he couldn’t be more wrong, and I tell him why in the letter sent to him a couple days ago.
“Bill, the attacks on George W. Bush were based on lies and half-truths, and motivated by a hate never before seen in politics. Part of the reason for the hatred was that he said he was a committed Christian, and admitted to praying in the Oval Office. He also professed belief that our country was founded by Christian men; men who developed the Constitution, a document based on the Judeo-Christian ethic. The Left can’t tolerate those beliefs - they get infuriated.
“The attacks on Barrack H. Obama are based on his policies, on the facts of what he has been doing to dismantle the Free Enterprise System that has made this country the greatest economic power in the history of the world. The attacks, unlike those on Bush, are not personal or motivated by hate. The attacks are on his policies which Americans in greater numbers are coming to see as an attempt to change the United States into what Obama thinks it should be. It doesn’t appear that the Christian foundation of the Constitution has any relevance in Obama’s world.
“The Left wasn’t upset when Obama said, ‘I am a committed Christian’, because they knew it was a hollow pronouncement. They are well aware of the un-Godly, un-American pastor under whom Obama sat for twenty years, and they’re aware of his close friendship with unsavory characters, particularly a domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers.
“Do you think a Christian president would be the leading advocate of abortion, the slaughter of unborn American children? Would a Christian President ignore the Constitution? Would a Christian President say, as President Obama said, ‘The United States is not a Christian nation’?
“There is no similarity to the attacks on George W. Bush and the attacks on Barack H. Obama. One attack is personal, motivated by hate; the other attack concerns policies.
“Something else that has not received much publicity is President Obama’s statement overseas that he is a “citizen of the world”. I believe him. I think he considers himself as much a citizen of the world as a citizen of the United States. Is that important? I think so.
“Jesus talked about the people of ‘the world’ the night he was betrayed, the night before His torture and death when He prayed to His Father, ‘I have given them [His apostles] Your Word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.’ (John 17:14-16)
“Who are the people in ‘the world’? In this country it is the Progressives/Liberals. The positions and policies they support illustrate the stark difference between them and God-fearing Americans; Americans consisting of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who comprise organizations like the T.E.A. Party movement.
“Progressives/Liberals almost unanimously support: Pro-Choice (for death); homosexual marriage; softness on Terrorism; secularism (Separation of Church & State); Belief in Darwinism; and, they advocate BIG government and high taxes.
Other Biblical comments about people of ‘the world’:
“’These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me’ (Isaiah 29:13).
“ ‘A good tree puts forth good fruit, and an evil tree puts forth evil fruit’ (Matt 7:17).
“No, Bill, there is no similarity between the attacks on George W. Bush and Barrack H. Obama. George didn’t deserve the personal attacks. Barack DOES deserve the policy attacks.
“I would hope that you might consider climbing off the political fence you’re straddling, and take a stand for Right, or Wrong (Left).
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord! (Psalm 33:12)
